It makes me sad to read about the loss of your friend and also of a bit of yourself. It made me realize that I'm no longer the funny, slightly scattered divorced daughter who always needs my dad's advice. I can't afford to be anymore. And that is a great loss. I had minor surgery lately, and he wasn't there. Others were, but it was a shock, a loss of security and comfort that I always took for granted.
Your relationship with your friend sounds like it was incredibly special for many years. I love that you could express an entirely different side of yourself with him. And I'm sorry it ended with all these losses. I am leaning into all you said about building new attachments and hoping that many more come your way (and mine). I suppose that's all we can do - hope we keep shifting and finding new people?

I'm so sorry about your friend.
Thanks for you kind comments! My father passed away 16 years ago. I still find myself thinking that I wish I could ask him ___.
